Abstract
Reaction of [{Sm(C5Me5)(mu-OAr)}(2)] (Ar= 2, 6-(t-Bu)(2)-4-MeC6H2) or [Sm(C5Me5)(2)(thf)(2)] with 1 equiv of [{Ir(C5Me5)Cl(mu-Cl)}(2)] in TH F gave the ''ate'' complex [Ir(C5Me5)(2)][Sm(C5Me5)(2)Cl-2] (1) as ora nge-red crystals in 60-74% yields (based on Sm). Complex 1 represents the first example of a structurally characterized metallocenium lantha nocene dihalide complex. Crystal data for 1: monoclinic, space group P 2(1)/m (No. 11), a = 9.781(4), b = 14.956(4), c = 13.842(5) Angstrom, beta = 93.38(3)degrees, V= 2021(1) Angstrom(3), Z=2, D-c = 1.57 g cm(- 3), R = 7.75%, R-w = 9.23%, GOF = 1.12.
