Fd. Brooks et al., DETERMINATION OF HCNO CONCENTRATIONS BY FAST-NEUTRON SCATTERING ANALYSIS, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 410(2), 1998, pp. 319-328
A technique has been developed whereby a pulsed, monoenergetic fast ne
utron beam is used to determine concentrations of the elements H, C, N
and O in small (0.2-1 kg) samples. Organic scintillators detect neutr
ons scattered by the sample and pulse height and time-of-flight data r
ecorded by the detectors are analysed using the HEPRO program system (
PTB, Braunschweig). Test measurements on compounds of the four element
s show that atom fractions and masses may be determined to a few perce
nt accuracy. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
