Abstract
Interventions that reduce the risk of CHD are widely underused by phys icians. Data overwhelmingly support the use of statins to lower total cholesterol and LDL-C levels, yet less than 25% of patients with coron ary heart disease in the United States are treated with lipid-lowering drugs. Perhaps the physician is the most important risk factor for un deruse of cholesterol-lowering strategies. Effective programs that are nurse-based can improve delivery of risk factor management in patient s hospitalized for CHD. A model program has been implemented at the Un iversity of Maryland.
