Nanocrystalline lead titanate (PbTiO3 or PT) powder has been prepared
by the sol-gel process followed by annealing at 700 degrees C. Using t
he spin-coating technique, 0-3 nanocomposite thin films of PT powder d
ispersed in a vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene P(VDF-TrFE) copoly
mer matrix have been fabricated on glass substrates. The permittivity,
pyroelectric coefficient, specific heat and pyroelectric figures-of-m
erit have been measured as functions of the volume fraction (phi) of c
eramic for phi up to 0.12. All three figures-of-merit (current, voltag
e and detectivity) were found to increase with increasing phi. (C) 199
