Abstract
This article focuses on the importance of the development of dialogue between teacher and student if learning is to occur. A review of video taped interactions between teacher and student illustrates that teachi ng and learning in medicine can occur through observation, introspecti on and dialogue in the teacher-student relationship. The teaching of c linical medicine requires skilled teachers who can devote the necessar y time to teach students well.
