Abstract
An effect of substitution of deuterium for protium in molecules of 17 solvents on Xe-129 NMR shifts was studied. The variation range of solv ent-induced isotope xenon shifts delta(s)(i) exceeds 5 ppm and lies in the range from - 1.18 ppm (in CH3OD solution) to 3.92 ppm (in D2O) at 28 degrees C. Experimental results agree with the concept that intera ction of xenon atoms with solvent molecules is determined predominantl y by dispersion forces. Correlations of delta(s)(i) with the isotope e ffect on polarizability, boiling point, and vapor pressure of solvents were established. Anomalous manifestation of properties of aqueous so lution was detected.
