Abstract
A range of properties is surveyed for three barium lanthanum fluoride compounds, where the lanthanum ion may be holmium, erbium or thulium. The experimental methods include magnetic resonance, and optical absor ption spectroscopy, together with measurements of heat capacity and ma gnetic susceptibility.
