The nitro-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (nitro-PAHs), including 1-n
itro-naphthalene, 2-nitronaphthalene, 3-nitro-biphenyl, 4-nitro-biphen
yl, and 9-nitro-anthracene, were separated by micellar electrokinetic
chromatography and detected by photodiode array UV spectrometry. Sodiu
m deoxycholate was used to form micelles. The effects of organic modif
iers (methanol, acetonitrile, and dimethylformamide) and beta-cyclodex
trin on the separation of the nitro-PAHs were investigated, as were th
e effects of temperature and applied voltage. (C) 1998 Academic Press.
