A high-performance liquid chromatographic method was developed for sep
aration of the furochromone fraction and for determination of visnagin
in Ammi visnaga hairy root cultures. Lyophilized samples were extract
ed with chloroform:methanol (1:1, v/v) and purified on solid-phase ext
raction cartridges. HPLC analyses were performed on a Eurospher 100-C-
8 Knauer column and the mobile phase was 29:28:526:417 (v/v/v/v) aceto
nitrile:tetrahydrofuran:30 mM citric acid (pH 3.0):methanol. Quercetin
was used as internal standard. Peaks were identified by addition of a
uthentic standards and/or by diode-array detection. (C) 1998 Academic
