Abstract
Objective: to create a model for improving the quality of life of nurs ing-home residents, Design: a controlled randomized study. Setting: a suburban nursing home in Stockholm, Intervention: mental stimulation b y audiovisual means. Subjects: residents with mild mental impairment w ho had lived in the nursing home for at least 6 months. Outcome measur es: quality of life was measured by the Nottingham Health Profile, Res ults: the quality of life increased in the intervention groups compare d with the control group. Conclusion: audiovisual stimulation had a gr eat impact on the quality of life of chronically ill elderly nursing-h ome residents.
