K. Takabe et al., ANISAKIDOSIS - A CAUSE OF INTESTINAL-OBSTRUCTION FROM EATING SUSHI, The American journal of gastroenterology, 93(7), 1998, pp. 1172-1173
We report a case of strangulating small bow?el obstruction in a 60-yr-
old Japanese woman caused by anisakidosis (previously known as anisaki
asis). With the increasing popularity of Japanese cuisine such as sush
i in the United States, the incidence of anisakidosis is expected to i
ncrease. Intestinal anisakidosis can now be treated temporarily, but t
his condition may cause a serious obstruction afterwards, as evidenced
by this particular case. Over 13,500 cases were reviewed in both the
Japanese and English literature, and we discuss the prevention of anis
akidosis without negatively altering the taste of the raw fish, (C) 19
