A survey for Xiphinema species in Serdang, the Puchong area and the Ca
meron Highlands (Malaysia) yielded eleven species, of which one new, d
escribed hereunder as X. winotoi n.sp. It is close to X. radicicola, d
ifferring mainly in the much longer and differently shaped tail. X. fr
anci was found for the first time since its description from Madagasca
r; it has only three juvenile stages. Data are further given for X. br
evicolle, X. krugi, X. ensiculiferum, X. radicicola, X. cf. orthotenum
, X. insigne, X. setariae, X, elongatum and X. d brasiliense. The earl
ier literature reports on Xiphinema species from the region are review
ed. X, monohysterum apud Ahmad and Baqri (1987) is considered to be X.
radicicola; X. basilgoodeyi apud Ahmad and Baqri (1987) differs from
the original description in tail shape and might rather belong to X. b
asiri. (C) Orstom/Elsevier, Paris.
