Abstract
In this study we analyze the composition and distribution of the polyc haetes of the family Spionidae collected in the oil platforms' region in the southern Gulf of Mexico. T-he spionids are the dominant family in terms of abundance,frequency and specific richness. Five genera and 14 species were identified, represented by 880 polychaetes collected for this study. The taxonomic problems related to the species identifi cation are discussed.
