A VOLATILE MIXED-METAL YTTRIUM BARIUM COMPOUND - SYNTHESIS AND MOLECULAR-STRUCTURE OF BAY2[MU-OCH(CF3)2]4(THD)4 (THD = 2,2,6,6-TETRAMETHYLHEPTANE-3,5-DIONATO)

The volatile compound, Y2Ba[OCH(CF3)2]4(thd)4, is obtained by treating
a mixed-metal yttrium-barium hexafluoroisopropoxide derivative and yt
trium tetramethylheptanedionate Y(thd)3; its structure is based on a c
entral Ba[OCH(CF3)2]42- moiety connected to two Y(thd)2 fragments via
the alkoxide ligands; barium-fluorine interactions lead to a twelve-co
ordinated metal while Y is six-coordinate.
