M. Urbanova et al., LASER PHOTOLYSIS OF LIQUID BENZENE AND HEXAFLUOROBENZENE - GRAPHITIC AND POLYMERIC CARBON FORMATION AT AMBIENT-TEMPERATURE, Carbon (New York), 36(5-6), 1998, pp. 517-520
ArF laser-induced liquid-phase photolysis of benzene and hexafluoroben
zene afford similar products which are polyaromatic hydrocarbons or fl
uorocarbons with the preponderance of biphenyl or decafluorobiphenyl,
graphite, and polymeric H-containing or F-containing carbon. The remar
kable feature is that the graphite formation occurs at ambient tempera
ture of the irradiated liquids; photolytic graphitization modes must t
herefore be different from those occurring in thermally-induced graphi
tization at temperatures above 2500 degrees C. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scien
