Wg. Brogdon et Jc. Mcallister, SIMPLIFICATION OF ADULT MOSQUITO BIOASSAYS THROUGH USE OF TIME-MORTALITY DETERMINATIONS IN GLASS BOTTLES, Journal of the American Mosquito Control Association, 14(2), 1998, pp. 159-164
A simple method is described for treating 250-ml glass Wheaten bottles
with insecticide, and using them as test chambers for detecting insec
ticide resistance in mosquito and sandfly populations. The methods for
treating bottles, obtaining baseline data, and applying this techniqu
e to insects from the field are described. Sample data are presented f
rom tests run on different vector species using a variety of insectici
des. Time-mortality data from the bottle bioassay are presented alongs
ide results from biochemical detection methods applied to the same mos
quito population. The potential role, advantages, and limitations of t
he time-mortality bottle method are discussed.
