Chloro-terminated polysulfones with various molecular weights were che
mically modified with bis(2,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde)copper(II). The pr
operties of modified polysulfones are compared with the unmodified one
s, and an increase in glass transition temperatures, softening points
and reduced viscosities of the former materials was observed. In addit
ion, the chelate-modified polymers exhibited excellent thermal stabili
ty properties and semicrystalline patterns. Also, they provided transp
arent and flexible films. (C) 1998 John Whey & Sons, Ltd.
