Abstract
Present health care system reforms, such as the rapid growth of manage d care in the United States and the introduction of general practition er (GP) fundholding in the United Kingdom, have some striking similari ties. These similarities are particularly evident in primary care. Yet , the health care delivery systems in the United States and the United Kingdom are so different that some policymakers claim that comparison s between the 2 systems are almost impossible to make.
