Abstract
We discuss a detection scheme that reveals the existence of vortex sta tes in a cylindrically symmetric condensate trap. It relies on the mea surement of the second-order correlation function of the Schrodinger f ield and yields directly the topological charge of the vortex state, a s well as direct evidence of the existence of persistent currents.
