Abstract
Extraction of the roots of Baptisia australis afforded a new triterpen oid saponin, baptisiasaponin I together with kaikasaponin III. The str ucture of baprisiasaponin I was elucidated as -D-xylopyranosyl-(1-->2) -beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl sophoradiol on the basis of its spectral da ta and chemical degradation.
