Working in a foreign environment with different political, cultural an
d economic characteristics, hotel expatriates are confronted with both
job-related and personal problems. This study identified the predicto
rs of job and life satisfaction of expatriate hotel managers in the As
ian Pacific. The findings suggest that role clarity, participation in
decision making, and skill variety are the best predictors of expatria
te job satisfaction, while cultural adjustment and skill variety are t
he predictors of expatriate life satisfaction. In addition, the study
also examined the relationship between expatriate satisfaction and tur
nover intention. The results indicate that both job and life satisfact
ion affect expatriate turnover intention. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Lt
