This review attempts to provide a concise overview of the observationa
l signatures of galactic black hole candidates and highlight some of t
heir theoretical models. We focus on the emerging areas of confrontati
on between observation and theory. The goal is to lay the foundation o
f a possible unified framework for the systematic study of the multiwa
velength emission and dynamical properties associated with galactic bl
ack-holes candidates, ranging from X-ray Nova outbursts to relativisti
c bipolar jet-like outflows. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights
