Twelve new 2-[2,6,8-trisubstituted-4 (3H)-oxoquinazolin-3-yl]-5-aryl-1
,3,4-thiadiazoles (9-20) were synthesized by reacting different aromat
ic carboxylic acids with corresponding 2,6,8-trisubstituted-3-thiosemi
carbazido -4 (3H)-quinazolones (5-8). These thiosemicarbazido -4(3H)-q
uinazolones, on the other hand, were obtained by the condensation of 3
-amino-2,6,8-trisubstitued -4(3H)-quinazolones (1-4) with carbon disul
fide ammonia and hydrazine hydrate. All these intermediate compounds a
nd the title compounds were characterized by their analytical and spec
tral data. Many of the title compounds were found to be good antiinfla
mmatory agents on evaluation.
