K. Pielichowski et al., A STUDY OF THE THERMAL-PROPERTIES OF BLENDS OF POLY(VINYL CHLORIDE) WITH NOVEL EPOXYPROPANECARBAZOLE-BASED DYES BY TGA FTIR/, European Polymer Journal, 34(5-6), 1998, pp. 653-657
Thermal properties of blends of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) with two no
vel dyes, 3-(4-bromophenylazo)-9-(2,3-epoxypropane)carbazole (I) and 3
-(4-nitrophenylazo)-9-(2,3-epoxypropane)carbazole le (II) have been s
tudied by thermogravimetric analysis coupled with Fourier transform in
frared spectroscopy. It was found that these additives can be used as
effective dyes while having little effect on the thermal stability of
PVC up to 200 degrees C. These data were also confirmed by analysis of
hydrogen chloride evolution by GC and FTIR. Kinetic analysis by the O
zawa-Flynn-Wall method yields the following values of activation energ
y for given degrees of conversion: for alpha = 0.5, E lies in the rang
e 108.8-157.5 kJ mol(-1) for PVC-I blends and 140.0-146.0 kJ mol(-1) f
or PVC-II blends. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
