Abstract
We consider areas of consensus, including the value of an evolutionary perspective and the utility of exploring variations in physical activ ity play. We also consider areas of debate, including the nonplay/play distinction, functions of R & T, and the opportunities of juveniles f or exercise training. We call for more directed research in this negle cted area of children's behavior and development.
