In recent years, ultrasonography has beome an important adjunct to tho
racic radiography in the diagnostic work-up of noncardiac thoracic dis
ease in both humans and animals. This article discusses the applicatio
n and limitations of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of thoracic wall
, pleural, mediastinal, and pulmonary masses, pleural effusion, pneumo
thorax, pulmonary consolidation and collapse, and diaphragmatic hernia
in the dog and cat.
