In-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy and the decay of I-124 were used to stu
dy the nuclear structure of Te-124. On the basis of gamma gamma-coinci
dences, a level scheme was constructed with over 100 levels and 170 tr
ansitions. The use of excitation functions and angular distributions f
or the (alpha, 2n) reaction, and the log(ft) values for the decay, all
owed spin assignments for a large number of the levels to be made. The
resulting level scheme was interpreted in the framework of the intera
cting boson model and the particle-core coupling model. (C) 1998 Elsev
