Abstract
Agglomeration of gibbsite (Al(OH)(3)) crystals is an important stage o f the Bayer process. In the present study, using a crystallizer workin g at constant supersaturation with time, we determine the agglomeratio n kinetics of gibbsite as a function of different experimental paramet ers. The effect of the crystallization temperature, supersaturation, s eed mass, stirring rate and seed size is investigated. An interpretati on of the results is proposed, they are also compared with previous re sults drawn from the literature. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All ri ghts reserved.
