Abstract
By means of axisymmetric hydrodynamic models with chemistry we study t he X-ray emission of two processes in a comet : Bremsstrahlung of sola r wind electrons interacting with the neutral gas coma, and :charge ex change of heavy solar wind ions in high ionization states with the neu tral cometary gas. Comparisons of morphology, intensity and spectrum w ith observations favour heavy ions as the emitting agent (C) 1998 Else vier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
