Abstract
This paper reports on using magneto-resistive heads with soft magnetic ''under-keeper'' layers below the media. A simple model based on imag ing is in agreement with experimental data. The keeper layer screen lo w spatial frequency media signals, narrowing the read pulse slightly. In addition, the keeper introduces noise at low spatial frequency.
