Abstract
The theory of all-fiber optical switch based on stimulated Raman scatt ering in a fiber loop mirror is described. A model has been developed to predict the transfer function of the loop as a function of a fiber core composition. Such a switch combines optical switching and amplifi cation in a single device. A switching pulse energy of about 1 pJ at w avelength of 1550 nm is predicted for the Raman switch. (C) 1998 Acade mic Press.
