Abstract
Five cerebrosides, AS-I-I (1), AS-1-2 (2), AS-1-3 (3), AS-1-4 (4), and AS-1-5 (5) were obtained from the CHCl3-MeOH extract of Garlic, the b ulbs of Allium sativum L. (Liliaceae), On the basis of spectroscopic r esults, structures of 1-5 have been elucidated. Compounds 1, 2, and 5 were new cerebrosides, Compounds 3 and 4 were identified with the know n glucocerebroside soya-cerebroside I and II, respectively, which have been previously obtained from soybean with ionophoretic activity. Pos itive ion FAB-MS/MS of the (M + Na)(+) ion gave important information on the length of the fatty acyl chain of the ceramide moiety.
