Y. Iwahira et Y. Maruyama, EXPANDED UNILATERAL FOREHEAD FLAP (SAIL FLAP) FOR COVERAGE OF OPPOSITE FOREHEAD DEFECT, Plastic and reconstructive surgery, 92(6), 1993, pp. 1052-1056
This report details our experience with five patients who had skin def
ects of their forehead that were covered with an expanded unilateral f
orehead flap from the contralateral side that we call the sail flap. S
kin expansion provides an ideal thin flap for the forehead aesthetic u
nit. The viability of the sail flap is sufficient through expansion, a
nd it is available in suitable size and shape for the defect. The dono
r site is minimal and well accepted because the scar coincides with th
e hairline.
