Abstract
Using two series-connected liquid-crystal cells of different thickness
es as an example, it is shown that the presence in an imaging element
of a functional layer with a nonlinear dependence of the capacitance o
n the bias voltage makes it possible to substantially increase the slo
pe of the volt-contrast characteristic of the electrooptic effect. (C)
