In order to verify the production rates of radionuclides calculated by
the Los Alamos High Energy Transport code (LAHET), a series of experi
ments were conducted using the Texas A&M University Cyclotron to measu
re radionuclide yields from copper, gold, and lead targets bombarded b
y 120 MeV deuterons. The measured yields were compared to a set of cal
culated yields generated from LAHET simulations. Several irradiation t
imes and decay times were used to improve sensitivity to both short-li
ved and long-lived nuclides. Agreement between the measured and calcul
ated radionuclide yields was found to be generally within a factor of
two. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
