The electrochemical properties of C-60 films were studied by cyclic vo
ltammetry and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance technique in
organic electrolyte solution. Tetramethylammonium perchlorate was use
d as a supporting electrolyte in acetonitrile solution. Thin films are
prepared by solvent quickly evaporated method on a preheated glassy c
arbon electrode. The electrochemical response of C-60 films is consist
ent with a reduction mechanism that is domina:ed by ion transport to f
orm contact ion pair. In the proposed mechanism, swelling of the film
with solvent and intercalation of cations into the film proceed parall
elly. The stability of the film with respect to successive redox cycle
s was also interpreted.
