Bis(triphenyltin) succinate exists as a centrosymmetric dinuclear mole
cule, mu-succinato-bis(triphenyltin), [Sn-2-(C4H4O4)(C6H5)(6)], With i
ts Sn atom in tetrahedral coordination. When crystallized from an etha
nol solution containing excess dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), it yields s(
triphenyltin)].[mu-succinato-bis-(triphenyltin). sesqui(dimethyl sulfo
xide). hemiethanol], -4(C4H4O4)(2)(C6H5)(12)(C2H6O)(1/2)(C2H6OS)(3/2)]
, and when crystallized from an ethanol solution containing excess hex
amethylphosphoramide (HMPA), it yields o-bis(triphenyltin).bis(hexamet
hylphosphoramide)], [Sn-4(C4H4O4)(2)(C6H5)(12)(C6H18N3OP)(2)]. In the
DMSO and HMPA complexes, the [mu-succinato-bis(triphenyltin)] moiety i
s linked to the [mu-succinato-bis(triphenyltin).bis(donor)] moiety by
a carboxylate bridge, giving rise to a linear chain structure of tetra
nuclear complexes.
