The title compound, [Ni(C30H28N3O2PS)], is the first example of a tran sition metal complex involving a thiosemicarbazide-based tetradentate ligand with a P atom in its coordination sphere. The Ni atom in the co mplex has a distorted square-planar configuration formed by N2OP donor atoms, It can be concluded from the structure that the formation of t he complex involved addition across the azomethine group, which is the first time this has been observed for this class of ligands.
