Am. Tsirlin et al., FINITE-TIME THERMODYNAMICS - CONDITIONS OF MINIMAL DISSIPATION FOR THERMODYNAMIC PROCESS WITH GIVEN RATE, Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics, 58(1), 1998, pp. 215-223
The class of thermodynamic processes with given rate and minimal entro
py production is considered. The general conditions they obey are deri
ved. It is shown how the application of those conditions to a number o
f particular systems produces a number of known bounds on entropy prod
uction (for heat and mass transfer processes and chemical conversion)
as well as previously unknown bounds (for throttling, crystallization,
and mechanical friction).
