P. Etchegoin, GLASSYLIKE LOW-FREQUENCY DYNAMICS OF GLOBULAR-PROTEINS, Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics, 58(1), 1998, pp. 845-848
It is shown that globular proteins display a universal average structu
re factor accounting for their common aminoacid base. This property, l
inked to the construction of a random elastic network to study the low
-frequency dynamics, leads to striking similarities between the physic
s of globular proteins and that of glassy or amorphous nanocrystals. A
few consequences of this interpretation are inquired into, particular
ly, in connection with some of the universal properties of the low-fre
quency dynamics that were recently discovered for globular proteins.
