It was investigated to what extent concepts of motivational psychology
are taken into consideration in theories of complex situated learning
. As an example, the anchored instruction theory was chosen. It turned
out that within theories of situated learning the goal of adequately
motivating learners was dealt.with in a dysfunctional manner. As a res
ult suboptimal. interactions between learners and learning environment
leading to unfavorable motivational and cognitive effects can crop up
. The consideration of domain specific aspects is indicated as a metho
d of preventing features of the learning environment from inducing an
ineffective direction of motivation. Therefore normative decisions hav
e to be made, especially concerning the specification of learning goal
