The Danish Economic Society Nationalokonomisk Forening, was founded in 1872 and is celebrating ifs 125th anniversary The history of the Soci ety, and its journal, Nationalokonomisk Tidsskrift, is briefly outline d. The Society was founded earlier than the economics societies in oth er Scandinavian and English-speaking countries. It aimed from the begi nning at purely scientific discussion, but in early, years political c ommitments caused problems. From 1930 to 1960 the Society, was a main forum for presenting economists' advice on economic policy. Since 1960 economic research has been specialized and economic advice institutio nalized.
