Abstract
A direct catalytic asymmetric aldol reaction of an aldehyde and an unm odified ketone promoted by an asymmetric barium complex has been achie ved. The possible structure of the barium catalyst, BaB-M, which posse sses the function of a Lewis acid and a Bronsted base, was characteriz ed by LDI-TOFMS, C-13-NMR spectroscopy and extensive studies of reacti on conditions.
