This centred volcano is the only Cainozoic aerial extrusive occurrence
on the Atlantic coast, south of the Cameroon line. The alkaline magma
s (basanites), emitted 17.9 Ma BP, under a normal magnetic field with
steep inclination, make them a continental equivalent of basanitic flo
ws from Annobon island (SW of Cameroon line). This volcano and the und
erwater extrusive ''Loiret'' bank are associated with a transcurrent s
ystem including a strike-slip FZ (''Fang''), parallel to the Cameroon
line and rooted inland on an old suture zone.
