We show that no break of sedimentation occurs between Stephanian and P
ermian times within the Graissessac-Lodeve basin. This agrees with rec
ent models in which the development of Permo-Carboniferous basins with
in the Variscan chain results from post-thickening extension, induced
by the gravity collapse of a previously thickened crust.
