Abstract
The main pigments of three types of reproductive cells (viz. male and female gametes and zoospores) and the vegetative cells of Ulva pertusa Kjellman were investigated. The relative amounts of both chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b in male gametes, female gametes, and zoospores wer e 1 : 2: 16-18, respectively. The reproductive cells contained gamma-c arotene, which was not found in the vegetative cells. The carotene con tent of the male gametes was almost the same as that of female gametes . Because the difference of the chlorophyll content between male and f emale gametes is obvious, it is suggested that U. pertusa has anisogam ous union of gametes.
