Abstract
A brief historical summary and analysis of social psychology in the la te seventies and eighties in Latin American initiates this article as a prelude to the presentation of a proposal for developing a new focus oriented towards promoting citizen participation (CP). An example of the social psychology of citizen participation in Caracas, Venezuela i s presented to illustrate the proposal.
