A. Heyraud et al., STRUCTURE OF AN EXTRACELLULAR MANNOSYLATED CELLULOSE PRODUCED BY A MUTANT STRAIN OF XANTHOMONAS-CAMPESTRIS, Cellular and molecular biology, 44(3), 1998, pp. 447-454
Structural studies were performed in two atypical polysaccharides, PS-
I and PS-2 isolated from the broth of a Tn5 mutant strain of Xanthomon
as campestris. Sugar composition, methylation and nuclear magnetic res
onance analyses were determined. PS-1 is composed by repeating trisacc
haride units containing D-glucose, D-mannose and having the stucture -
->4)-beta-D-Glcp(1-->4)-(-D-Glcp(1--> 3 up arrow 1 alpha-D-Manp Prelim
inary studies on the PS-2 show a polymer composed in a large extent of
rhamnose. Unexpectedly, this polysaccharide is soluble in alcoholic s
olutions.
