Abstract
We consider the influence of a surface acoustic wave on the conductanc e through a ballistic quantum channel with an adiabatic geometry produ ced by split gates in a two-dimensional electron gas. The surface acou stic wave leads to a contribution to the conductance of the quantum ch annel. This contribution. called the acousto-conductance, is shown to oscillate as a function of the Fermi level, which is controlled by the gate voltage. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
