A model is presented to investigate the process of the dissociative ad
sorption of dimers and study the percolating properties of the dissoci
ated monomers. There is only one phase, the monomer-nonpercolating pha
se, if the dimer concentration phi is low. If phi > phi(c), however, t
he system undergoes a continuous transition from the monomer-nonpercol
ating phase to the monomer-percolating phase as the dissociation proba
bility p increases. The phase diagram is obtained by numerical simulat
ion. The universality class of the model is found to be the same as fo
r the ordinary percolation model. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All r
